Available Software

There are many software packages available for student use. Listed here are only the most common ones, if you have need for a specific package, it will be for a particular course, in which case the instructor should be able to tell you how to access it, or you are working on a project, in which case you should talk to whoever is head of the project for assistance.

Most common software packages:

  • Word Processing
    • MS Word, Office 2003
    • MS Word, Office 2000
    • pico in UNIX

  • Databases
    • MS Access, Office 2003
    • MS Access, Office 2000

  • Spreadsheets
    • MS Excel, Office 2003
    • MS Excel, Office 2000

  • Programming
    • Microsoft C++
    • Visual Studio .Net
    • Microsoft Visual Basic
    • QBasic
    • gcc -- mesa5 c/c++ compiler
If it's curriculum software, it should be in all of the labs, with the following exceptions to certain Win95 applications:
Software Locations
Package Hou 102 Hou 103 Hou 118 Wub 145 Wub 147 Library
Visual C++       All   18-25, all 3rd floor computers
Visual Basic       All   44-50, all 3rd floor computers
ArcView       9-25   37-43
AutoCad       All   2-6
SPSS (base)           44-50
SPSS (advanced)           16-18,37-43
Maple All All   All All All
MatLab       All
TerraStation       All   2-6? (sometimes)
Office 2000 ALL ALL       ALL

If a cell is blank, then the software is not installed in that lab
If a cell contains the word All, then the software is installed on all of the computers in that lab
If a cell contains numbers, then that means only some of the computers in that lab have the software installed on them, and the numbers indicate which computers have the software.

If you find a computer that doesn't have the software on it that this table says should be there (it doesn't show up in the start menu, and it doesn't show up in the Novell Application Launcher), please report this to a lab assistant.
