Avoid using floppy disks. They are infamous for becoming
corrupt at the worst times. If using floppy disks
is your only alternative, copy your files to a second
floppy disk as a backup.

File Storage - Access on Campus
This page contains instructions for opening and saving files
from and to servers at Mesa State College. These instructions
apply after having used your network
username and password to log onto a computer.
Home Folder
(F Drive) is space, on Mesa State servers, where students
may store files they need for courses. It should be used for
academics use only. Students cannot see nor modify files on
other student's Home Folders (F Drives).
Download Folder (H
Drive) is space, Mesa State servers, where instructors
save files to make them available to students.
Courses Folder
(K Drive) is space, on Mesa State servers, where students
can electronically turn in assignments.
L Drive is space, on Mesa State
servers, where students, who take classes primarily on the
Montrose Campus, can save files needed for their courses.
Students cannot see nor modify files on other student's L
Drive. The L Drive should be used for academic use only.
Saving to Network Folders/Drives
Using network folders/drives on a campus computer is similar
to using a floppy disk. To save your file to your F Drive,
simply click
- File / Save As,
- select the desired drive and folder, and
- click Save.
Here are the details. Suppose that you are using Microsoft
Word and want to save your file.
- Left click
located in the toolbar at the top of the screen.
- Left click on "Save As", which is in the drop
down menu that appeared when you clicked on "File".
- A short cut is to click on the
button,
which looks like a floppy disk if you use your imagination
and is located in the tool bar at the top of your screen.
- In the new window that appears, click on the
which is located to the right of the "Save in"
area. The image below should help. 
- Then a drop down menu showing all drives will appear.
Click to select the drive and folder in which the file is
to be saved.
- Give the file a name, and
- Click the "Save" Button.
- From this point forward, click on the
button
to save your file. It will automatically save with the same
name and in the same place where you last saved the file.
Opening Files on Network Folders/Drives
To open a file that has been saved on the network,
- Open "My Computer,"
or ,
which is found on the Start Menu or on the Desktop.
- Double click the Drive containing the file.
- Double click on the folder containing the file.
- Continue Double clicking on folders if the file is located
in sub folders.
- Double click on the file to be opened. Then the file will
open in the software that created it.
