Net Drive is a tiny program that makes
connecting to F, H, K and L Drives quite easy. NetDrive is used
on computers located in the dormitories and off campus. It works
best with a high speed Internet connection such as broadband or
DSL. It allows these drives to appear in the My Computer window.
Downloading & Installing NetDrive
Getting Ready to Download NetDrive
- Connect to the Internet and open a browser ( Internet Explorer,
FireFox or Netscape).
- Go to the Mesa State College Home Page http://www.mesastate.edu.
- Point to
.
- Click "Student Login" in the drop down menu.
- Click on the
Link. If a security alert appears, click "Yes" or "OK".
A log in window will appear.
- Enter your network login name and
password.
- Click on the "_it_utils" link. It is located near the
top.
- Click on the "netdrive.exe" link. The File Download Window
will appear.
Downloading NetDrive
- In the File Download Window, click on the
button
located next to Save In.
- Click "Desktop" in the drop down menu.
- Click the "Save" Button located in the lower right hand
corner of the "Save As" Window. The NetDrive file will download
to your desktop.
- If necessary, click the "Close" Button to close the "Download"
Window.
Installing NetDrive
- Close all programs so that you can see the Desktop. NetDrive
suggests that all programs be closed before installation.
- Double click on the new
icon on the Desktop.
- Click the
button.
- Choose the language of your choice.
- Click "Next" in the Welcome Window.
- Read the license agreement and click either the Yes or No button.
- Click "Next" button to select the default installation location.
- Drag the NetDrive shortcut to the Desktop and drop it there.
Now NetDrive is ready to use.
First Time Configuration
- Double click the
icon
located on the desktop. The NetDrive Window will appear.
- Click the New Site Button located in the lower right hand corner
of the NetDrive Window. The Add New Site Window will appear.
- For the name of the new site, type in "F Drive at Mesa State
College ". To configure the H and K drives, see Step 6 below.
- For the site address/URL, enter "home.mesastate.edu"
and Click the Finish Button;
- In the NetDrive Window
- Change server type to "FTP".
- Set the drive letter to "F." Make sure that your
computer does not already have a drive of some type (CDROM,
CDRW, DVD, etc.) that is using F as a drive letter. If so,
choose a letter other than F and one that is not used on your
computer.
- Click in the box next to "Anonymous/Public Login" to remove
the check mark there;
- To see a sample
"Net Drive Window", click here.
- Click on the "Connect" Button. A passwrod window
will appear.
- Enter your network user name
and password.
- If you are connected to the Internet, a Windows Explorer
Window showing all your drives, including your F Drive, will
appear. Otherwise, an error message will appear. If necessary,
close this error message and proceed to the next step.
- To configure access to the H Drive or K Drive, repeat the last
five steps for each drive. For the H Drive, enter "H Drive
at Mesa State College" for the site name and "download.mesastate.edu"
for the address/URL. For the K Drive enter "K Drive at
Mesa State College" for the site name and "courses.mesastate.edu"
for the address/URL.
Using NetDrive
- Connect to the Internet.
- If you put a check mark next to "Connect at login/startup" during
the first time configuration (above), you can now open files from
and save files to your F: Drive just as you would with an A: Drive
(floppy disk).
- Double click the
shortcut
icon located on your desktop. The NetDrive Window will appear.
- Click on "F Drive" in the left hand portion of the NetDrive
Window.
- If Necessary, enter your Novell username and password in the
right hand portion of the NetDrive Window.
- Click the "Connect" Button. A Windows Explorer window
will open. This window shows all drives connected to your computer.
One of these drives is your F Drive. Clicking on the plus in front
of your F Drive will show the contents of your actual F: Drive.
- At this point you can open files from and save files to your
F: Drive just as you would with an A: drive or C: drive.
Disconnecting NetDrive
- To disconnect NetDrive, double click the "My Computer"
icon on your desktop.
- Right click your F: Drive.
- Click "Disconnect".
- Another way to disconnect is to right click on the NetDrive
icon located in your system tray and click "Exit".
