Bergman Field

Photo of Bergman Field

Bergman Field is located behind Saunders Fieldhouse and between Orchard Avenue on the north and Mesa Avenue on the south. It is the home to many of the College human performance and wellness courses and intramural sports. The large area also provides practice fields for athletics teams and is the home field for Mesa State's powerhouse Women's Soccer team and RMAC Champion Softball team.

Bergman Field is named for longtime Mesa State coach Walter "Bus" Bergman. Bergman coached football and baseball at Mesa from 1950 through 1980. His football record was 102-63-9, with three conference junior college championships. His baseball teams were 378-201, with 20 conference championships. Bergman also led Mesa to second place finishes in the Junior College World Series three times. In 1984, Bus Bergman was inducted into the National Junior College Athletic Association Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.
