Saunders Fieldhouse

Saunders Fieldhouse is home to the Mesa State College
athletic programs and human performance and wellness department.
The Fieldhouse has offices for coaches and faculty and is also
the home of Brownson Arena, where the Mavericks Basketball and
Volleyball teams hold court.
Saunders Fieldhouse is named for Rowland (Roe) F.
Saunders, a longtime board member of the College. Saunders retired
from the board in 1971, after 24 years of service. He was a Mesa
County Commissioner from 1952 to 1964. Saunders name is on the
Fieldhouse in honor of his love of sports.
Brownson Arena is named for two of Mesa State College's
best friends and biggest supporters. Bud and Phyllis Brownson
are alumni of Mesa State (as are there four children and several
grandchildren). The Brownsons established the Brownson Memorial
Scholarship in 1984 in memory of Bud's parents (Bruce P. and Mary
F. Brownson). Since then the Brownson Memorial Scholarship has
provided full ride scholarship to numerous deserving students
in football, basketball, business, soccer, baseball, and music,
as well as a full ride scholarship for a deserving minority student,
regardless of academic or athletic interest. Take
a 360 degree virtual tour of Brownson Arena.
