What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?
Interlibrary Loan provides you with
library materials not available locally. Before placing an ILL request
for articles, please check MSC holdings:
Journal Finder. Before placing an ILL request for books
or other library materials, please check these resources: Mesa
State Library Catalog, Mesa
County Public Library, and Prospector.
How do I place an Interlibrary Loan request?
Place requests by completing and submitting online ILL Request forms. Click below:
A request should be submitted only after checking that the material
is not available locally.
How do I pick up my material?
When your material arrives, you will receive email notification with information about the delivery method. If the item is to be delivered electronically, the e-mail will give detailed instructions on pick-up procedure. Items not delivered electronically may be picked up at the Circulation Desk by showing your Mesa State College MAVCard anytime the library is open.
Is there a charge for Interlibrary Loan?
Requests for current students, staff, and faculty are processed
free. All other patrons must pay a $5 processing fee per item, due
at the time the request is made.
If the lending library charges us for the
material, you will be charged, unless you are current faculty or emeritus. Tomlinson
Library has agreements with many libraries to provide materials
at no cost to ILL users. We always request from free lenders, if
possible. Charges from other libraries range from $15.00 to $25.00.
At the time of request, you can indicate the amount you are willing
to pay for the loan or photocopy. We do not request from a lender
who charges unless the customer has preauthorized payment.
When we receive the authorized material, you are responsible for
the fees. If these charges are not paid at the time the material
is picked up, they will be attached to your library circulation
record and handled by the same process as fines and other charges.
How long can I keep an Interlibrary Loan
book?
The lending library sets the due date. If you need to request a
renewal, do so before the due date. Stop by L110A, call 248-1844,
or e-mail ill@mesastate.edu
to request a renewal.
What if I lose my Interlibrary Loan book?
The lending library determines the charges
for a lost or damaged book. You are responsible for all lost or
damage charges.
How does the copyright law apply to Interlibrary
Loan requests?
Tomlinson Library adheres to the federal
copyright law and CONTU guidelines.
- Requests for photocopies include the copyright warning. You
must acknowledge awareness of the copyright warning.
- You may request only a total of 5 articles per year
from the last five years of a specific magazine without paying
a copyright fee set by the publisher.
- You may request only ONE article per year from any one issue
of a magazine without paying a copyright fee set by the publisher.
You will be contacted regarding fees before the request is processed.
If authorized, you are responsible for all fees.
