Most of the polychrome bowls, two Black-on-Red bowls (Pinedale) and two Black-on-White bowls (Snowflake) came from the Pinedale ruins or that vicinity of east-central Arizona--a region that was traditionally the border between the Anasazi and Mogollon Cultures.

St. Johns Polychrome, made as early as A.D. 1150, was one of the most widely traded of the polychrome wares. It was produced until ca. A.D. 1300 when it was supplanted first by the Pinedale Polychrome, then by the Fourmile Polychrome. The Pinedale area, near where the Zuni Pueblo is located today, also produced the earliest true glaze paints used on pottery in the Southwest.
