Many of the pottery types from pueblos in the Upper Little Colorado River region were traded south into the Salado area, which is located between the Salt and Gila Rivers. The Pueblo culture that developed there is often referred to as Anasazi, but it was probably a mixture of all three of the Southwest cultures--Anasazi, Mogollon, and Hohokam. Six pieces of the Ethridge collection may be attributed to the Salado Culture: the Tularoso Black-on-White canteen (A.D. 1100-1250), the two Roosevelt Black-on-White ollas (A.D. 1150-1350), and the three Gila Polychrome bowls (A.D. 1300-1425). |
