Graduation Information

All students must petition to graduate during the semester prior to the anticipated semester of graduation by completing an "Intent to Graduate" form at the Registrar's Office. Students must meet with their faculty advisor, complete a program sheet, a graduation-planning sheet and get signatures from their advisor and Dean. It is important to begin this process early in the semester prior to the semester you plan to graduate. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that all paperwork is completed by the appropriate deadline as shown below.

GRADUATION INSTRUCTIONS

Stop by the Registrar's Office:
_________ Pick up, fill out and turn in the "Intent to Graduate" form
_________ Pick up unofficial copies of your transcripts for all the colleges attended
_________ Pick up the "Graduation Planning Sheet" for step two
_________ Pick up a Graduation Survey and return within five days
Make arrangements and meet with your assigned advisor:
_________ Take the unofficial copy of your transcripts to your advisor
_________ Take your program sheet filled in as much as possible
_________ Take your "Graduation Planning Sheet" filled in as much as possible
_________ Your advisor will need to sign your program sheet. Be sure to work with your advisor as needed. It is ultimately your responsibility to make sure you have met the graduation requirements.
Optional Steps - Visit the Advising & Career Center and the Alumni Association
_________ Visit the Advising & Career Center regarding help with resume writing, interviewing and the job search process.
_________ Submit a dues waiver form to have your first year's dues to the Alumni Association waived.

All graduation documents must be received in the Registrar's Office by mid-October to qualify for the ceremony in May of the following year.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE THE "INTENT TO GRADUATE" IS SUBMITTED TO THE REGISTRAR'S OFFICE AND YOUR PROGRAM SHEET(S) ARE SUBMITTED TO YOUR ADVISOR BY THE APPROPRIATE DEADLINE.

  • The Registrar's Office will make the final determination in accepting your general education credits. Your advisor and department head will approve your major coursework.
  • You must meet ALL the requirements as listed in the catalog year for your program sheet.
  • If your petition is denied it will be your responsibility to reapply for graduation in a subsequent semester. Your intent to graduate does not automatically move to a later graduation date.
  • Your diploma will be mailed to the "Diploma Address" as provided on your "Intent to Graduate" form. If you have any address changes it is your responsibility to make sure that you notify the Registrar's Office.
  • Signing the "Intent to Graduate" authorizes the release of your name and address to Herff-Jones and the commencement photographer. Herff-Jones provides the cap, gown, and announcements. These two companies are contracted with MSC to provide services for the ceremony. Both have agreed not to use your name and address for any other purpose. If you do not want this information released, please contact the Registrar's Office.
