Add / Drop /Withdrawal General Information
There are published deadlines to add, drop, withdraw from classes. While trying to add a class you may encounter registration holds and/or registration errors.
Adding a Class
Prior to the First Day of the Class |
The student should try to add class(es) on the web through Maverick
On-line. If an error occurs with a class and the class is open,
the student may use a Registration Special Permission Form. |
Adding a Class
Starting the First day of Class through the end of the Add Period |
For the first few day or two of class, a student can add any
full semester class online as long as the class is open, doesn't
require instructor permission, and the student meets the course
requirements. The add deadlines in the
attached chart list the last day to add a class with/without an
instructor signature. Students are responsible for learning any
course content and completing the assignments, tests, quizzes. New
students with an Advising Hold will need to work with the Advising
& Career Center. |
Adding a Closed Class |
The student should attempt to add a different section of the
same class or choose an alternative class. If the class is required
for graduation during the specified semester, the student can attempt
to add the class with a Change of Schedule form; however,
it may be difficult to obtain a signature to override into a closed
class. The student should speak with his/her advisor for options. |
Waitlisting for a Class |
Some classes will have online waitlists. If waitlisted for a class,
it is the students responsibility to periodically check whether
the class is still listed as waitlisted or registered. The students
name will be removed from the waitlist if the college cannot fit
the waitlisted class into the students schedule due to time
conflicts, duplicate classes, pre-requisites, co-requisite errors,
or exceeding the maximum semester hours allowed. All these issues must
be addressed prior to waitlisting for the class. |
Dropping a class
Prior to the Drop Deadline
|
It is best to drop a class(es) prior to the first day of the
semester, however a student can drop a class online or through the
Registrar's Office prior to the drop deadline.
If a registration hold exists, the student can drop a course in
the Registrar's Office, Student Services at WCCC, or the Montrose
Office. New students with an Advising Hold will need to work
with the Advising & Career Center. Dropping a class removes
the class from the MSC transcript and no grade is submitted. |
Withdrawing from a class
After the Drop Deadline |
After the drop deadline, a student will need to obtain the instructor's
signature to withdraw from a class on a "Change of Schedule"
form. A student who withdraws from a class does not get a
refund for the course. For Colorado Residents who are using
the College Opportunity Fund (COF), the credits will be counted
towards the COF attempted hours. Withdrawing before the middle
of the term will result in a grade of "W", and after the
middle of the term a grade of "F". |
Withdrawing from ALL classes |
To withdraw from all classes, a student must submit a Total
Withdrawal form to the Registrar's Office. The date the form
is submitted to the office will dictate the refund rate and grade
assigned.
Prior to the First Day of the Semester - The student is eligible for a 100% refund of tuition/fees and
no classes are recorded on the transcript.
Prior to the Drop Deadline - The student is eligible for a partial refund of tuition/fees
and no classes are recorded on the transcript.
After the Drop Deadline - The student may/may not be eligible for a partial refund. Withdrawing
before the middle of the term will result in a grade of "W",
and after the middle of the term a grade of "F". For Colorado
Residents who are using the College Opportunity Fund (COF), the
credits will be counted towards the COF attempted hours. |
Where can I find the "Change of Schedule" and
"Total Withdrawal" forms?
The "Change of Schedule" form is available at the Registrar's
Office, Student Services at WCCC, and the Montrose Office.
The Total Withdrawal form is available by clicking Total
Withdrawal (PDF), at the Registrar's Office, and at the Montrose
Office. The student needs to return the signed form back to
one of these offices to finalize the process. Students who
are taking online classes or classes at a remote location should
call the Registrar's Office at 970-248-1555 to obtain the forms.
What if I miss the first two class periods?
Attendance during the first two class sessions is required. Any instructor has the option of dropping any student who fails to attend the first two class meetings so that other students may enroll. Not all instructors will exercise this option; therefore, a student should not assume that nonattendance will automatically result in being dropped.
