Public Accounting provides a solid foundation for a successful
career as a professional accountant. It is a concentration of the
Bachelor of Science degree in accounting offered at Mesa State College.
By our degree concentrations, we strive to provide our graduates
with more than the foundation of the occupation, i.e., preparing,
analyzing, and verifying financial data. A public accountant performs
many tasks and offers a wide range of services to their clients,
some of which include auditing; financial advice; personal or corporate
tax advice, preparing personal and corporate budgets; functioning
as a personal financial advisor; business consultant; in addition
to standard accounting practices. Employers may be one or many;
personal or corporate. Generally, public accountants work for accounting
firms, or have their own business. Students should possess ability
in mathematics and have an interpretive mind, being able to analyze
and understand facts and figures. A graduate of this program can
become a Certified Public Accountant; and, along with the public
accounting concentration hold a distinct advantage in the job market.
OF SPECIAL INTEREST: Mesa State College offers a combination
of the public accounting baccalaureate degree and the Master's in
Business Administration degree, which allows you to graduate in
five years with both the bachelor and master degrees. A master's
degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting
is highly desirable among employers.
JOBS AVAILABLE
With this degree, you can become a Certified Public Accountant in
Colorado and work as a C.P.A., Trust Accountant, Internal Auditor,
IRS or FBI investigator, personal financial advisor, manage assets
and investments, and, assist with retirement planning, to name a

of finance and a degree with this concentration can serve as a stepping
stone to a business career of choice.
