Oxygen Uptake Kinetics

When exercising below (<) ventilatory threshold (VT), oxygen uptake (VO2) will increase relative to time monoexponentially and will reach equilibrium ("steady state"). Conversely, at intensities >VT, VO2 will continue to slowly rise resulting in a VO2 slow component.
Dr. Gig Leadbetter & Dr. Steve Murray have recently submitted an IRB to conduct a series of investigations on this topic. Of particular interest is the predictive validity of the VO2 slow component. That is, can we predict the time at a given exercise intensity for the slow component to reach VO2max?
