The Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program is accredited by the Colorado State Board of Nursing (CCNE). This program is designed for high school graduates, Associate and Diploma RNs, and LPNs. The four-year program provides educational experiences to prepare a professional nurse generalist to practice in a variety of health care settings. The program integrates nursing theory, practice, and science with a broad liberal arts education. The program has been developed to prepare a highly competent professional with the education necessary to meet the increasing need for quality health care in society today. The development of this program was influenced by the current trend in nursing which is to move away from the technical level toward the professional nursing role. The bachelor's degree will also provide a nurse with the foundation for graduate study in nursing.

In fall of 2003, the department began a new RN-BSN Program for Associate Degree and Diploma RNs who wish to advance their degree. The program is delivered entirely online; local students can opt to attend classes on campus.

The department has instituted an LPN to AAS in Nursing Degree program for Licensed Practical Nurses wishing to obtain an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing and become an RN.

The Department of Health Sciences usually receives about three times more nursing applications than it can accept. Therefore, grades, and completion of most (if not all) required courses are considered in the application process, as well acceptable CPR certification. Mesa State's nursing program started in 1988 and has been fully accredited since its inception. The college is very proud to report that the graduates of this program have maintained a 90-100% pass rate on the National Council for Licensure Examination (NCLEX), which is the examination an RN must pass to obtain a license to practice.
