LPN to BSN Application Process

Thank you for your interest in the process for an LPN or advanced place student to enter the Baccalaureate Nursing Program. Our curriculum design enables you to enter into the program with advanced standing, providing you have completed the lower-level general education courses. Current LPNs might also wish to explore Mesa State's proposed LPN to AAS in Nursing program.

Mesa State College follows the Colorado Nursing Articulation Model (please note different requirements for out-of-state graduates).

The following are steps to be taken for admission into the program:

For LPNs:                                                                                    For Advanced Place:
  1. Have graduated from a state-approved practical nursing program.

  2. If you graduated from an LPN program at a vocational-technical school, you must take and successfully complete the challenge exam (Excelsior College Exam 403-Fundamentals of Nursing, formally Regent's College.) This exam must also be successfully completed if you graduated from a non-NLN accredited LPN program. Consult with the Testing Center at Mesa State College regarding the application procedure and date
  1. Have college credit for a nursing Fundamentals course and submit a course description.

  2. Have a letter of recommendation from a Director or Dean.
3. Have a 2.0 ("C") on a 4.0 scale or higher grade for all courses required for completion of the Baccalaureate Deree in Nursing. This policy applies regardless of when the course was taken. A "D" grade or lower in any required course is not acceptable.
4. Make application to Mesa State College. If you are a graduate from Mesa State College you must reactivate the old application, advising the Registrar's Office of the change into the baccalaureate program.
5. Submit a transcript to Registrar for evaluation and have them sent it to the Heath Services Department for all post-high school work.
6. Furnish to the Admissions Office a high school transcript or a score of 45 on the GED, transcripts of all college/university work completed, as well as from your LPN program.
7. Be admitted to Mesa State College as a general student by receipt of a letter from the Office of Admissions.
8. Upon notification of admission to Mesa State College, make an appointment with the Registrar for an evaluation of general education completed.
9. Make application to the Department of Health Sciences by October 1st for the spring semester and by March 1st for fall semester.
10. Must submit a copy of current Colorado LPN license and proof of IV certification with application.
11. The applicant must complete all required freshman and sophomore non-nursing courses before junior level nursing.
12. Take and successfully complete all required freshman and sophomore non-nursing and nursing courses, except for NURS 201/201L-Nursing Fundamentals.

Again, thank you for your interest in our program. Selection of students for the program will take place after the deadline. If your LPN to BSN Application folder is complete and you meet the criteria, you will be considered for admission.
