RN to BSN Nursing Program

Print this Nursing Career Ladder Handout!

Thank you for your interest in the process for a Registered Nurse to enter the Baccalaureate Nursing Program. Our curriculum design enables you to enter into the program with advanced standing, providing you have completed the lower-level general education courses. Please click here for frequently asked questions. The RN to BSN courses are offered both on campus and online. Students may take courses in either format to achieve this degree. Most Registered Nurses complete the coursework on a part-time basis, however, full-time schedules can be arranged with your advisor.

Mesa State College follows the Colorado Nursing Articulation Model. (Please note different requirements for out-of-state graduates.) For progression to the Nursing Baccalaureate Degree:

  • Must meet program admission requirements.
  • Must have graduated from an associate degree or diploma nursing program, any state.
  • Must be licensed in good standing as a Registered Nurse.
  • May transfer in, or be awarded credit equivalent for, approximately one year of nursing courses. Credit to be held in escrow until equivalent of one full-time semester of nursing course work has been completed.
  • No more than 38 additional semester hours of nursing credits may be required for those receiving credit for one year of nursing courses.
  • No more than 132 total semester credit hours may be required for the baccalaureate degree.

Other program requirements are:
1. Make application to Mesa State College. If you are a graduate from Mesa State College Associate Degree      Program you must reactivate your old application by advising the Registrar's Office of this change.
2. Be admitted to Mesa State College as a general student by receipt of a letter from the Office of      Admissions.
3. After completion, or transfer, of all non-nursing prerequisite coursework, make special application to     the Department of Health Sciences for advanced placement (RN-BSN Application).
5. Provide evidence of the current license to practice as an R.N. Submit a copy of the license to the      Department of Health Sciences with the application.
6. If necessary, provide updated copies of college transcripts to the Department of Health Sciences.
