SEMESTER I - Fall
NURS 101- Pharmacology Calculations
Introduces the nursing student to the concepts and techniques
of dosage calculations and medication administration by a variety
of routes. Learners will apply basic math concepts to complex
conversion of dosages between and among various systems of weights
and volumes. Learners will apply critical thinking skills to the
calculation and administration of medications by oral and parenteral
(including intravenous) routes of administration. Completion of
all general education and prerequisites.
Credit: 1credit
hour - classroom instruction (15 contact hours).
NURS 106/106L - Fundamentals of Medical/Surgical Concepts
I (and lab)
Introduces the student to the role of the nurse in assessing and
meeting the medical and surgical nursing needs of adults across
the life span in various health care settings. The student learns
nursing concepts to assist the patient in achieving optimal functioning.
Knowledge from foundational nursing, the sciences, pharmacology,
and nutrition along with the continued integration of mental health
and cultural concepts provides foundations for nursing care planning
for medical and surgical clients. Completion of all general
education and prerequisites. Credit:
5 credit hours - 3 classroom instruction (45 contact hours) and
2 clinical instruction (90 contact hours). $50 lab fee.
NURS 107/107L - Foundations of Nursing (and
lab)
Introduces the nursing student to applications of critical
thinking and the nursing process to provide care to clients in
a variety of community and acute care settings. Emphasis is on
holistic health care across the health-illness continuum. Introduces
learners to the clinical skills essential for the nursing role
of care provider including safe and effective clinical environment,
skill preparation, implementation and evaluation. Emphasizes use
of caring, critical thinking, and communication while completing
nursing skills. Completion of all general
education and prerequisites. Credit:
5 credit hours - 3 classroom instruction (45 contact hours) and
2 clinical instruction (90 contact hours). $50 lab fee.
NURS 112 - Basic Concepts of Pharmacology
Introduces the basic concepts of pharmacology related
to the actions, therapeutic and adverse effects, interactions
of drugs, drug classifications, and the basic pharmacology of
commonly used medications. Emphasis is placed on nursing considerations
and client education. Learners will apply knowledge gained in
selected clinical settings in caring for clients across the lifespan.
Completion of all general education and prerequisites.
Credit: 2 credit hours - classroom instruction
(30 contact hours).
SEMESTER II - WINTER
NURS 108/108L - Foundations of Nursing
II (and lab)
Intravenous therapy and venous blood withdrawals. Credit: 4 credit
hours - 3 classroom instruction (45 contact hours). 1 credit hour
- clinical instruction (45 contact hours). $50 lab fee
SEMESTER III - SPRING
NURS 117/117L- Nursing Care of Childbearing
Family (and lab)
Provides a foundational course in the nursing care of
the childbearing family. The focus is on normal pregnancy, physiologic
and psychological changes experienced, and care of the normal
newborn. The nursing process is used in identifying and meeting
the needs of the childbearing family to facilitate optimal functioning.
The impact of psychosocial and cultural values and practices of
the childbearing family are explored. Legal and ethical issues
are addressed. Completion of all general education
and prerequisites. Credit: 3 credit
hours - 2 classroom instruction (30 contact hours) and 1 clinical
instruction (45 contact hours). $50 lab fee.
NURS 118/118L - Nursing Care of Children (and lab)
Introduces the role of the nurse in meeting the individual needs
of the child from infancy through adolescence in health and illness.
Beginning assessment and use of the nursing process, basic growth
and development, pathophysiology, nutrition, and relevant emotional,
cultural and family concepts are integrated throughout. Completion
of all general education and prerequisites.

hours - 2 classroom instruction (30 contact hours) and 1 clinical
instruction (45 contact hours). $50 lab fee.
NURS 156 - Socialization into Practical Nursing
Introduces roles and responsibilities of the graduate Practical
Nurse as defined by established standards, including the Colorado
Nurse Practice Act. Emphasis is placed on accountability, delegation,
and perspectives in health care. Career and job readiness skills
are developed. Completion of all general education
and prerequisites. Credit: 1 credit
hour - classroom instruction (15 contact hours).
NURS 172/172L - Fundamentals of Medical/Surgical
Concepts II (and lab)
This course offers the clinical practicum to apply the
related nursing theory Application of Medical - Surgical Skills
II. In using the nursing process to assess, critically analyze,
identify outcomes and plan to assist clients with more complex
health care needs. The learners will utilize advanced psychomotor
skills that treat medical and surgical problems or conditions
and assist clients to regain optimum level of function. Learners
will evaluate the client's response to treatments and document
responses and outcomes. Completion of all general
education and prerequisites. Credit:
7 credit hours - 3 classroom instruction (45 contact hours) and
4 clinical instruction (180 contact hours). $50 lab
fee.
