LPN to Associate of Applied Science
in Nursing Degree

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

The following non-nursing prerequisites and general education courses must be completed prior to acceptance into the LPN to AAS in Nursing program. The numbers in parentheses indicate the credit hours a student earns upon completion of the course.

General Education:

ENGL 111English Comp. I (3)

Social/Behavior or Humanities Elective (3)** (class list)
KINE 100Health and Wellness (1)
KINA XXXAerobic/Fitness Activity Course (1) (class list)
MATH 110 (or above) College Mathematics* (3)

* All general education requirements and prerequisite courses with the exception of Math 110 also apply to B.S.N. degree requirements.

** Only (3) credits required instead of usual (6) due to PSYC 233 (3), which is counted with general education courses but used as a prerequisite in the LPN to AAS program.

NOTE: All general education requirements are waived for those students who have previously earned a Baccalaureate of Arts or Science. General education requirements are waived for those students who have previously earned an Associate of Science or Arts degree, with the exception of the KINA courses. (This does not include either an Associate of Applied Science, or an Associate in General Studies.)

Prerequisites:

BIOL 209/209LAnatomy & Physiology I (3 credits-lecture; 1credit-lab) **
BIOL 210/210LAnatomy & Physiology II (3 credits-lecture; 1credit-lab)**
BIOL 241 - Pathophysiology, (4 credits-lecture)**

PSYC 233Human Growth & Development (3 credits-lecture)***

**BIOL 209/209L, BIOL 210/210L, and BIOL 241 must have been completed within five years prior to applying to the nursing program.

*** This course is counted with general education courses, but is a prerequisite for the LPN to AAS in Nursing program.

NOTE: If the student completed any of the program (core) requirements at a school other than Mesa State College, please send copies of course descriptions for these courses along with your transcripts so that we may evaluate their transferability. If the student completed any of the general education requirements at another school, the student should request a transcript evaluation from the Registrar's Office at Mesa State College.

Once the student has been accepted into the LPN to AAS in Nursing program, they must complete the following courses in sequence. Each level represents one semester.

Semester I - Spring

NURS 288—Health and Physical Assessment for Nursing (AAS Program only)

LPNs are required to obtain IV Certification prior to application to the nursing program. For information on IV classes, call the Extended Studies Office.
