Biology with Teaching (secondary)
A Middle School or High School Biology Teacher? Is that what you
want to be? Mesa State College has the ideal program designed to
meet the requirements of your career goal. Our program allows students
to obtain the Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with a concentration
in Teacher Licensure (Secondary). The department faculty prides
themselves on providing an outstanding learning experience that
will provide the student with a broad background in the biological
sciences. Additionally, through example, the faculty will inspire
students with the ability to communicate effectively; inspire trust
and confidence; motivate; and, recognize the individual needs of
the students in their own classrooms. A science building housing
state-of-the-art equipment is an integral asset to the program.
Because the Teacher Licensure program is highly structured, it is
imperative that students receive early advising from the Center
for Teacher Education, along with the Department of Biological Sciences.
Licensure is a separate process from the degree although both may
be pursued concurrently. Graduates will enter into their chosen
field, inspired by the motto of the Center for Teacher Education:
"Educators as Innovators"
OF SPECIAL INTEREST: For those individuals who already hold
a degree and want to teach, Mesa State College has developed an
exciting Post Baccalaureate Licensure (PBL) Program. For further
information regarding this program, please contact the Director
of the Post Baccalaureate Licensure (PBL) Program.
JOBS AVAILABLE: Due to the large numbers of retiring teachers,
job opportunities in the teaching field are excellent, and most
especially in secondary education. Beyond the classroom, graduates
can move into positions as curriculum specialists, guidance counselors,
teaching administrators and supervisors in a number of educational
arenas.
