About the Program

Mesa State College’s Department of Physical and Environmental Science – Geology Program offers A.S. and B.S. degrees in Geology, plus a minor degree in geology as well as a new minor in GIS/GPS. For the B.S. degree, three areas of concentration are available 1) Geology, 2) Environmental Geology, and 3) Teacher Certification. The major in Geology is designed for students who: 1) desire a strong liberal arts education with emphasis on Earth Sciences, 2) wish to pursue a graduate degree in graduate school, 3) desire a professional career, or 4) wish to teach earth sciences in K-12 education. The Geology minor program is designed for students in other disciplines who wish to broaden their knowledge, background, and competence in the earth sciences. Graduates are finding employment in government agencies, environmental, energy, and mining industries, and in teaching.
