Gordon Gilbert

Gordon Gilbert, who was a Professor of Physics at Mesa State College, passed away on March 16, 2007. Gordon was an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher and a respected scholar. At Mesa State College, he was well known for his vibrant physics courses, particularly at the freshman level. He was renowned for theatrical impersonations of famous physicists in his classes.

Gordon came to Mesa State College in 1980 before the college offered any four year physics degree. He almost single-handedly created the physics major, leaving Mesa State College with a program from which numerous students have obtained physics degrees. Gordon retired from Mesa State College in December 2006 but remained active in the community until his death.

The Mesa State College Foundation is in the process of creating the Gordon Gilbert Memorial Fund, for the purpose of providing student scholarships. Persons interested in making donations can contact Ginger Rodabaugh at (970) 248-1987 for more details.
