Scheduling Tips

How many credit hours should I take?
Full Time Schedule
     Financial Aid & Housing
  • 12 credit hours a semester is considered full time for Housing &
        Financial Aid purposes
  •      Scholarships
  • 15 or more credit hours are required for some scholarships
  •      Four-Year Track
  • 15-16 credit hours per semester is recommended to graduate on
       a four-year track in a Baccalaureate degree program
  • Part Time Schedule
    • To remain eligible for most Financial Aid programs, a minimum of 6 credit hours is required. For more information, contact the Financial Aid Office.

    Scheduling Steps:
    Obtain Course Information
    • Course Schedule: To find out when you can register and which classes are being offered this semester, pick-up a Course Schedule in Lowell Heiny Hall or view it on line.
    • Program Sheet: To determine what major, General Education & Other Lower Division, Degree Distinction, and Elective requirements you may be required to take refer to your program sheet.
    • MSC Catalog: Look-up course descriptions and other important information in your catalog.
    Get Zoned . . . Log-on to MAVZONE and click on the Students tab
    • Declared Major: Find out if your major is declared and if you have been assigned a faculty advisor under Academic Profile (upper right).
    • Holds: Find out if you have any holds by clicking Holds under Academic Profile (upper-right) or Student Records (mid-left). If you have a UM hold see Academic Advising.
    • Transcript: under Academic Profile (upper-right) click on Transcript.
    Course Selection & Scheduling
    1. Program Sheet: Fill in your Program Sheet with the coursework listed on your transcript.
    2. Registration Worksheet: It may be helpful to make a table with the hours of the day on the right side and the days of the week at the top.
    3. Major Classes: First schedule the classes specific to your major. These classes are listed on your program sheet. Note: These classes tend to be offered at specific times only.
    4. General Education: Fill up the holes in your schedule with General Education, Other Lower Division, or elective courses.
    5. Faculty Advisor: Once you've completed your schedule, visit your faculty advisor. Your advisor may suggest alterations to your schedule if necessary. If you are not sure if you have been assigned a faculty advisor, log onto to your MAVZONE account and click on the "Students" Tab.

    Registration Steps:
    Registration
    1. Locate the Registration Dates inside the Course Schedule or online to find out your designated registration dates.
    2. Register online using your MAVZONE account or in person at the Office of the Registrar.

    3. Just in case you need to make any schedule adjustments after classes start, make sure to note the Add/Drop Deadlines posted inside the cover of the Course Schedule.
