Hooking the Sun
by John Nizalowski

A book of alternating poetry and short stories written in the classical Roman satura form. Five thematic sections: Old Age, Sickness, Death, Transfiguration, and Asceticism. Each of the sections contains a short story, four poems, two short stories, and a concluding poem.

"John Nizalowski's first book comes clearly from his own life, a story of eastern echoes and western mythologies. Both are tinged with his own religious experiences as a child, his sorrows as a young man, and his ecstasies and burdens as a middle aged poet, teacher, hiker, and lover. It's a heartfelt journey and you won't have to read far before falling into its scented canyons."
Gerald Hausman, author of Escape from Botany Bay

"...very honest, unsparing book. Nizalowski has dared the biggest dare of all, to declare himself. The poems open the story of his heart, and the prose pieces fill in the rest of the picture -- the bridges, and the little towns before morning, and the people who counted."
Thomas Lyon, editor of The Literary West
