Finding Your Books
- Bring your computer schedule with instructor's names and
section numbers- we can't help you find your books without
it.
- The store is organized
alphabetically by department. The shelf tags beneath
each book will match
up with the information on your schedule.
- Used books are clearly marked with
yellow stickers, and are always at the front of the
stacks. They cost 25% less
than new books. (Prices are marked on the shelf tag)
- The bookstore staff will be happy to help you find your
books and answer your questions.
Buying Your Books
- Bring a photo ID- preferably your MAVcard,
but a driver's license will work.
- Textbooks will cost you approximately
$100.00 to $125.00 per class, or about $500.00
to $625.00 a semester.
- Be prepared to pay for your books when you come to get
them - financial aid is not always ready when you are.
- The bookstore accepts Visa, MasterCard,
Discover, personal and out-of-town checks, traveler's
cheques, MAVcard Flex Account and cash. Credit
cards must be in the name of the person using the card.
- You can also use your MAVcard
as a debit card, if you have set up an account with Wells
Fargo. We cannot give cash back.
Returning Your Books
- If you need to return a book for a refund, you must have
your receipt and the photo ID you used when you purchased
the books. No receipt- no refund.
- Keep your new books in perfect condition and do not unwrap
shrink-wrapped packages until you are absolutely sure you
will be keeping them- the bookstore reserves the right to
determine the condition or salability of a book.
- Be aware of return dates posted in
the bookstore.
Selling Your Books
- Buyback is always during finals
in December and in May.
- You get 50% of the new book price (even if you bought
a used book) if the bookstore has an order for that title
for the upcoming semester.
- Otherwise, the used book company will
offer you market value, usually 15-20%
of the new price. Old editions have
no $ value. For classes that are only offered in the fall,
you may want to wait and sell your book during the May
buyback
instead of in December. You will often get a better price.
- Do not sell back a book that you will need for the next
semester!
Miscellaneous
- We recommend that you go to class before buying any books
listed as optional , and that you wait for a little while
before purchasing all the titles for a class that requires
multiple titles. However, make sure you purchase all the
books you will need by mid-semester. We begin returning
unsold copies to the publisher then.
- Once you are sure that you won't need to return a book,
personalize it in some way that will make it easy to identify
as yours in case it is stolen. For example, choose page
72 in each of your books and draw a happy face in green
highlighter. Report all stolen books to the bookstore ASAP.
- After the first week of class, if
we don't have a book that you need, we will take
your name and phone number,
and reserve a copy for you when they come in.
