Climbing Wall
The climbing wall was designed to challenge the skill,
physical endurance, and flexibility of novice and advanced
climbers alike. There are seven top rope-climbing routes
on the 28' high, 812 square foot contoured wall with an
overhang. A trained student attendant is always on site
to ensure safety measures are followed, as well as provide
advice. All climbers are expected to bring a partner for
belaying. All climbers/belayers must show competence in
knot tying as well as belaying techniques. All required
climbing gear is provided at no charge with a MAVcard.
Climbing shoes may be rented or bring your own non-marring
soft-bottom shoes.

Fitness/Strength Training
Areas
The fitness/strength training areas are the place to
come to get/stay in shape. Nineteen stations of cardiovascular
equipment, eighteen stations of single-station circuit
training equipment, and a stretching area constitute these
popular areas. Equipment brand names include Badger/Magnum,
Concept II, Life Fitness, Muscle Dynamics, Nordic Track,
Parabody, and Tectrix. A knowledgeable student employee
is always on duty to answer questions, demonstrate proper
technique, and demonstrate proper use and maintenance
of the equipment. Participants are asked to bring a towel
to assist with the removal of perspiration upon completion
of each workout. Jump ropes and work out towels are available
for free checkout at the Information Desk with a MAVcard.
The Student Recreation Center gymnasium is the venue
for open recreation activities as well as a variety of
intramural sports. The most popular activities that are
conducted in this area are basketball, volleyball, indoor
soccer, floorball, aerobics, and badminton. Other than
Wednesday nights (intramural volleyball), one-half of
the gym is most always available for pick up basketball.
Volleyball courts as well as indoor soccer courts can
be reserved for weekend play. Basketballs, volleyballs,
indoor soccer balls, and badminton equipment are available
for free check out at the Information Desk with a MAVcard.
The track is open for running, jogging,
and walking. The track is three lanes wide (10') and is
composed of a flexible rubber surface. It takes 13.7 laps
to cover a mile in the inside lane. Hand held lap counters
are available for free check out at the Information Desk
with a MAVcard.
Racket Courts
The Student Recreation Center houses two championship
racquetball/handball/wallyball courts. Each court has
a glass back wall for spectator viewing. Court reservations
can be made one working day in advance by calling the
Information Desk (248-1592). A student supervisor will
assist participants with setting up the wallyball court.
Eyeguards as well as a wallyball kit (net and ball)
may be checked out free of charge; racquetball rackets
are available for rent ($1.00 per day), and racquetballs
can be purchased ($4.00 for a can of two balls) at the
Information Desk with a MAVcard.
The Student Recreation Center Wellness Office is beneficial
to helping students, faculty and staff learn more about
their individual physical well-being. The Wellness Office
provides a wide assortment of reasonably priced assessment
tests to help in this endeavor. The Wellness Office is
staffed with Kinesiology majors who have completed extensive
classroom training in this field of expertise and are
monitored by an exercise physiologist. The Student Recreation
Center is proud to provide this valuable service while
affording Kinesiology majors practical experience. Appointments
