Questions About Membership and Fees

Where do I get a membership to use the recreational facilities?
If you're a full-fee-paying student (10 credits or more), you are already a member. Present your MAVcard at the Information Desk as you enter the Student Recreation Center. Part-time students, faculty, staff, and dependants may purchase full access semester long memberships. Alumni and Maverick Club members may purchase limited (time) access memberships. Members of the general public may purchase swim pool memberships only.

How and where are memberships sold?
All memberships are sold on a semester or summer session basis. All semester memberships are reduced by 50% shortly after the midpoint of each semester. All memberships are sold at the Information Desk.

My spouse or partner wants to join, too. How is it done?
A primary member may purchase an adult dependant membership at the Information Desk.

Do students get discount memberships for their children?
Yes. Any student can bring their dependant children with them at no additional charge. Access for children (under 18 years of age) is limited to specific facilities and/or times and must be in direct supervision by a parent at all times. Please check with the Information Desk for specific information. Children over the age of 18 must purchase a dependant's recreation membership.

May I bring a guest?
Members may bring up to three guests per semester at no additional charge. After that, the cost is $5.00 per guest per visit. Guest passes can be purchased at the Information Desk.

Why do part time students (less than 10 credits) have to pay an additional fee to use the facilities?
The Student Recreation Center Policy Committee determined a need for all students to pay full fees to use this student fee funded facility. They thought it was not fair that a student taking one credit not have to pay the same as a student taking ten or more credits. This policy was established in May 1995, prior to the opening of the facility. Part-time students only pay the difference in the fees associated with the debt retirement and the operation of the Student Recreation Center.

I'll be in Mesa County working this summer, but I won't be a student until the fall semester. Can I use the recreation center over the summer?
Students who are preregistered for fall semester may buy a membership for the summer. These memberships are sold in a way to accommodate students here for the whole summer whether or not they are taking classes. Ask staff at the Information Desk for more information.

Why do you require participants to show their MAVcard when entering the Student Recreation Center?
Our staff, like any other private/public agency (health club, library, etc.), wants to provide the very best services for our students. This means that our staff needs to screen out people who have not paid the necessary fees. If non-students participate in intramural sports or use the facilities to recreate, they are participating without having subsidized the college in any way. If allowed to participate, these non?students could be, taking the opportunity to participate away from an eligible fee paying student. We have limited resources and budgets that limit the number of recreational opportunities.

Where is the free parking for when I come to workout at the Student Recreation Center?
Except during the summer months (mid-May through mid-August), permit parking is enforced in Parking Lot G1. Please check with Parking Services (248-1919) for enforcement days/times. Street parking along 12th Street and Orchard Avenue is available at no charge.

On occasion I find that I cannot recreate due to a special event, academic class, or athletic practice. Why and how can I find out when these occur?
The recreational facilities at Mesa State College are designated multiple use facilities in which occasional scheduling conflicts occur necessitating adjustments in the regular schedule. All schedule changes will be posted 48 hours in advance (whenever possible) at the bulletin board closest to the entrance to the Student Recreation Center. Call 248-1592 for the latest information.
