Questions About The Swimming Pool

What are the pool hours?
The swimming pool is the most scheduled activity area in the complex. The traditional lap swim times are weekday mornings from 7:00 - 8:00 a.m. and weekday noon time from 11:05 a.m. - 1:50 p.m. Please consult the swimming pool page for open swim times and weekend hours.

When can children come to swim?
Children under 18 may swim during open swim hours only. Open swim hours are listed on the swimming pool page. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult in the pool area at all times.

Can children be in the pool during lap swim hours?
Children who are competitive swimmers can swim in the pool during lap swim times provided they abide by the rules and can physically swim multiple lengths of the pool without stopping to rest.

Why do you have to shower before entering the pool?
Colorado Health Department regulations require that all patrons shower before entering the pool. This helps to ensure proper water quality for the safety and enjoyment of our patrons.

What is the dress code for swimmers?
All swimmers must wear swimsuits. No cutoffs. Clean tee shirts may be worn.

What is the depth of the pool? Is diving allowed?
The swimming pool ranges in depth from 3' deep at the shallow end to 5' deep at the deepest end of the pool. Diving is not allowed due to the lack of depth of the pool.

What is the water temperature in the pool?
We try to maintain 81 degrees.

What is the length of the pool? How many lanes are there?
The swimming pool is 25 yards long by 6 lanes.

How many laps/lengths are required to swim a mile?
35.2 laps (70.4 lengths).

Are lifeguards present at the pool?
At least one certified lifeguard is on duty during all open and lap swim sessions. A lifeguard is also on deck whenever instructional classes are in the water.

Is there a Master's Swim Program?
Yes. Come by the pool between 6:00 - 7:00 a.m. during any weekday morning during fall or spring semester to find out more information. This program is offered through the Dolphin Swim Club (not affiliated with Mesa State).

Are there Water Aerobics classes?
Yes. All classes (credit and non-credit) are offered through the Department of Kinesiology.

Can I bring my SCUBA or kayak gear into the swimming pool?
Yes, with prior approval of the Director. The Outdoor Program also has a time block for student kayaking each semester.

Where can I buy a drop-in swim pass?
The general public may purchase a daily swim pass for $3.00. This pass is sold only during lap swim and open swim times. Payment is made at the Information Desk.
