Questions About Campus Recreation Services Employment

How do I get a job with Campus Recreation Services?
First you complete an employment application, which can be obtained at the Information Desk. The Director will then consider your application and will call you to set up an appointment if there is an opening that suits your interests and needs.

How do I find out if Campus Recreation Services is hiring?
Check the bulletin boards inside the Student Recreation Center as well as the Advising & Career Center located in Lowel Heiny Hall Room 127 or visit their web site.

What are the general eligibility standards for being employed?
During fall and spring semesters you must be an enrolled student and taking a minimum of 12 credit hours. Summer session student employees must be either enrolled for at least one class during summer session, or be a continuing student and preregistered for classes for the upcoming fall semester.

What paperwork is required at the time of employment?

How many hours can I get?
The college mandates that students be limited to 20 hours or less of work per week during the normal academic year. This rule is relaxed during school vacations. It is our philosophy that students are given every opportunity to chose how many or how few hours they wish to work, within the limits imposed by the college.

Can I work for Campus Recreation Services and carry a full class load?
Yes, all student positions are part-time. The number of hours and work schedule you would work are discussed and determined in your interview.

What would my pay rate be? How soon would I be paid?
Most students begin work at either $5.15 or $5.50 per hour. The Payroll Office determines campus wide pay rates. Normally, paychecks are issued on the 5th and 20th of each month.

How far out will I know my work schedule?
A work schedule is posted for the entire semester. Once you accept your schedule, that schedule is yours through the entire semester. You will have opportunities to add additional shifts as well as drop shifts throughout the semester.

Will I be expected to work weekends or holidays?
There is a general expectation that all students must be available to work at least one weekend (Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday) each month. Students get to choose which weekend each month. Students are not required to work on any school holiday or breaks.

Am I expected to work my normal shift during final exams?
Yes you are, unless you notify your immediate supervisor in advance. Exceptions are given during final exam week and no one is forced to miss an exam or study group session due to work.
