Questions About Weight Room

What hours is the Weight Room open?
This area is open whenever the Student Recreation Center is open. However, we share the facility with academic classes. During those time periods, the weight room is too crowded to allow multiple use. The times for these classes are posted at the entrance to the weight room.

Why do you need to check my ID to use the weight room?
Non-students coming off the street can reach the weight room without having their status checked. Therefore, in the interest of safety, we make sure only fee paying students, faculty, staff are allowed access into this area.

Is there someone there to teach me how to use the equipment properly?
We have a trained student staff member who can answer questions, demonstrate proper technique and use.

How many workout stations do you have?
Twenty.

What should I do if I feel the music is too loud or inappropriate?
First, talk to the student attendant supervising the area. If the student supervisor does not assist you, you should contact the Information Desk. They will handle the problem.

Why can't I bring my backpack into the weight room with me?
The weight room is a very confined area. Backpacks left on the floor would become an obstacles that could cause someone to trip or fall. We provide free daily lockers outside the weight room in the hallway for your storage.

What is the dress code for this area?
All participants must wear gym shorts or sweats, a shirt, and an athletic type, non-marking shoes.

Why can't I wear jeans while lifting?
Jeans have a tendency of tearing the upholstery that covers the seats, backs, and benches. Therefore, we require all participants to wear gym shorts or sweats.

Do you provide workout towels?
Yes. Just ask for a workout towel at the Information Desk. It is expected that all used workout towels are returned each day before you leave the building so they can be laundered and given to other students later in the day.
