The Geology and GIS/GPS Programs

Mesa State College’s Department of Physical and Environmental Science – Geology Program offers A.S. and B.S. degrees in Geology, plus a minor degree in geology as well as a new minor on GIS/GPS. For the B.S. degree, three emphasizes are available 1) Geology, 2) Environmental Geology, and 3) Teacher Certification. The major in Geology is designed for students who: 1) desire a strong liberal arts education with emphasis on Earth Sciences, 2) wish to pursue a graduate degree in graduate school, 3) wish to prepare for professional careers, or 4) wish to teach earth sciences in K-12 education. The Geology minor program is designed for students in other disciplines who wish to broaden their knowledge, background, and competence in the earth sciences. Students are finding employment in the environmental, energy-related, and mining industries, and in teaching fields.
