Students enrolled in GEOL 361 (Survey of Mineral-Related Natural Resources; Alt. Spring) participated in an extra-credit 1-day field trip to the Piceance Creek Basin. Led by Dr. Rex Cole, students studied saline-mineral deposits in the Green River Formation. The Green River Formation is well known for its variety of lacustrine rocks and minerals, biologic diversity, and resource potential. The Piceance Creek Basin near Grand Junction is a structural basin and major depositional site of Paleocene and Eocene sediments.
