Keynote Speaker:

Dr. Tony Payan is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Texas at El Paso and the Center for Inter-American and Border Studies.

On October 22-23, 2010 Mesa State College will host a multi-disciplinary conference on the theme of globalization that seeks to explore the impacts-positive and negative, past and future, real and imagined-in the Four Corners region, the United States and the world from a variety of perspectives and academic disciplines.

Scholars and practitioners in industry, the humanities, social sciences, human services, and criminal justice are encouraged to submit proposals. Topics can discuss how globalization impacts business, social services, national security, criminal justice, identity, art, literature, language or culture.

Papers, presentations or panels that explore the interaction between industry, scholarship and action on globalization issues are welcome. This conference is intended to provide a forum for the interaction and exploration of the issues related to globalization from various perspectives and experiences. Service providers, industry leaders and scholars in the humanities, social sciences, business and criminal justice are encouraged to submit proposals. The goals of the conference are:

  • to offer a venue for the convergence of theory and practice as related to globalization,
  • to explore multiple approaches to issues surrounding globalization,
  • to provide opportunities for multi-disciplinary exchange
  • and to promote understanding, encourage thought and further scholarship related to issues of globalization.

Conference organizers also invite proposals for complete panels or round tables related to globalization.

Submission Guidelines:
Abstracts can be written in English or Spanish, must be at most one page long on a letter-size sheet (8'''1/2 by 11''') with one-inch margins and typed in at least 12-point font. An optional second page is permitted for data and references. Abstracts must be anonymous. Submissions are limited to 1 individual and one joint abstract per author or two joint abstracts per author.

Abstracts must be submitted as a PDF, Word or RTF file and sent as an attachment to the following e-mail address: fourcornersconf@gmail.com

Please use 'Four Corners Globalization' in the Subject header and include the information in (1) - (6) in the body of the message.
